Dear community,
I’d like to draw your attention to an interesting series of research articles by Peter Dekker on the OBJET platform (links below). Personally, I believe this is a very important initiative. Anyone who has been involved in the study of Oriental — and specifically Indian — arms and armour since the 1980s, 1990s, or early 2000s will remember how difficult it was to access reliable books or illustrated catalogues on the subject. Even when museums like the Met began exploring the web to publish their collections, and auction houses joined online platforms, the information often remained commercially driven, with poor or misleading descriptions. In this context, the effort to build a solid, data-driven foundation — combining large-scale aggregation with modern publishing tools — strikes me as an extraordinarily clever and timely move. I’d love to hear your thoughts and ideas about this. Links: https://objet.art/as/articles/688774b1b575da46e1c660b3 https://objet.art/as/articles/68371fc423dca517b5ce19f6 |
