Hi Martin,
This example is post-Ottoman era, probably Bulgarian work. It's based on the kindjal (Turkish: kama) carried by Caucasian troops in Ottoman service who were often posted in the Western Provinces, i.e. the Balkans. It is sufficiently common to constitute a subgroup. Most appear to have seen hard use from the late 19th century right through WWII. Oliver |
