I know very little about swords but have spent much time separating historical items from items intended as decoration, and I suspect this is one of the latter. It does have some age, cound perhaps be late 19th c., when the noveau riche were spending for "old money-like artifacts" to dress up their mansions. I think the giveaway is the strictly 2-dimensional guard which is great for hanging on the wall easily but would not protect the bearer's wrist from most blows in combat.
