I've posted this sword marked Wyatt before but neglected to ask about the unique scabbard mouth with white buff leather strap.
Has anyone seen a similar attachment method on 18th century sword scabbards? |

Curious thing, Will.
Could it an implement added later, for lack of the original system, although visibly old; to hang on a sort of 'button' on the belt ... or elsewhere ? |

I would suggest that the scabbard is slipped through the mouth of a frog, then stopped and secured on a frog stud. This is a system that has been used into the 20th century and I show a 1957 Sig frog just for convenience. The difference that the scabbard has a scabbard slot for the frog strap.
