			Hello Eric,

Neither. Seems to be a not-so-old piece belonging to the kerambit family of blades (small sickle-shaped blades). Where does this come from? Regards, Kai |

			Thanks Kai,

He comes from a French collection, the seller maintains that it is an Indonesian object. In my opinion its Indonesian and is no more than 50 years old, the blade is very rusty, he appears to be a working knife. |

			My two cents.

It is Indonesian. First thing that came up to me is that the leather scabbard (bad pictures to give comment ) is a reworked scabbard from the Dutch klewang used by the KNIL forces.

IMO it's what we called as Lawi Ayam in Sumatra and Peninsular Malaysia. The name Lawi Ayam is derived from the Malay name for the tail feather of a rooster. It is the largest one in the Kerambit family of blades. The smallest one is called as Kuku Rimau. Somehow confusingly this Lawi Ayam is called as Kuku Macan in Jawa. Kindly compare Eric's picture with MSM'S PICTURE and CN'S PICTURE. mohd |

No doubt, the scabbard is a reworked klewang scabbard from the KNIL army.
