Algerian Pala need translation

Hi Kurt, fantastic swords, how do you know that these palas are Algerian?
In the book "splendeur des armes orientales" there is a almost identical one, but it is just described as "ottoman". |

Hi Eftihis ,
You're right, one of my palas was in the exhibition , "splendeur des armes orientales" Ottoman is correct because Algeria was part of the Ottoman Empire. But only in Algeria Palas were worn without cross pice. Kurt |

But it has unmistakeable Afghani/North Indian features. Any thoughts? |

Thanks for the info and opinion. My blade is pretty thick and massive, but not heavy: it is too short for that:-) Your gorgeous palas were presumably naval: too short for the cavalry. But.. Afghan Navy???? Moreover, if you saw another one like that, we are beginning to think about a specific pattern. What kind of purpose could such Palas serve in Afghanistan? |
