				 | Communist Kaskara ?!

Hi everybody, Any opinion on this kaskara ? The blade doesn't seem too old, and it is marked with odd-looking stars. The handle looks far older. Ebay Item number: 6636570430 Sincerey, Zan |

It is a quite nice piece. The blade is verry nice, but I think that it was shortened-tip reshaped. A pitty. A five pointed star is one of the muslim symbols. (missing the crescent) Nothing from the good right Josef's party here, I'm affraid Well maybe I'm wrong and that was a diplomatic gift from the sudanese government to TITO, leader of the third block - nonaligned nations |

The stars could be the maker's symbol. The blade looks more euro than Sudanese to me, with that quality, and yes, it looks very nice.

I would also expect that the blade is local Sudanese, and it surely does appear to be nice work. Leather and other organics weather harshly and quickly in that environment and the steel parts may have had a bit of a cleanup.

Followed this one, nice blade, the star mark put me off, very cleanly marked.....felt perhaps the blade was too new and of very recent manufacture..... Actually wondered if this Kaskara was made to look as if it was a re-hilted Crusader blade....for the 'unsuspecting' buyer... |

Crusader swords, rehilted as kaskaras are just a myth. |

Yes, I know Valjhun. But unfortunately, the myth is still believed, especially, it seems, in the US (it is easy to see why people make this mistake) and 'dodgy' sellers seem to want to keep this myth alive. |

Very interesting, thank you all. I also think it is a relatively recent blade. Or a shortened and much too polished old blade. But the stars are so clear, so regular... And repeated all over the blade. My humble opinion is that these stars have an "industrial" look in it. Just an intuition. Zan |

This is an old, heavily repolished blade in my opinion. And the seller happens to be an extremely well known and trusted dealer. If it wasn't for the tip shape I would have gone after this one.
