I recently bought this 58cm long dagger. Its sturdy and well made, its wootz but the pattern is not that great. Is it a Pesh Kabz? Is it persian origin? When was it made?, my guess is mid to late 19th century. Thank you for looking!

It is a peshkabz: single-edge blade. My guess it is more likely to be North Indian, 19 century. And the wootz is perfectly good, stop complaining, buddy:-)

Congratulations. Excellent pesh-kabz. I think it's Iran. The characteristic images on the handle of the dagger, in my opinion, "scream" about the Persian origin. It looks like it's from the late 19th century.

Many thanks for all your replies! Looks like a Pesh Kabz and is a Pesh Kabz, my only doubt was that its so long that its almost a short sword. Im very happy with it and pleased that I could add it to my collection.

Old Indo-Persian weapons were not “regulation” ones: and this is why there are infinite differences between them. G.C. Stone for example described “Khyber knives” blades varying in length between 14 and 30”. I have two with blades slightly less than 12” and one 34” ( proving old George too conservative:-)). Still, they are as “khybers” as could be. The longer ones served as “slashers”, the shorties as “ stabbers”. Last edited by ariel; 2nd June 2022 at 09:00 PM. |
