Haven't posted in a while... I found this at an "Outdoor 'french' antique market" in Marin. Cost: Dinner out. The inscription says "J--- (Undecipherable) Marttiini, Finland", and lower down "Rovaniemi". This became a well-known brand in Finland. It's a good knife, meant for use. Any ideas on age?

Nice knife. I have one like it. "J" is for Janne. I believe it is the Pornestrari model or maybe the Border Patrol (Rajapuukko) model. Older style sheath. Has not been in their catalog for a long time. Possible early to mid 20th C. (1928-1950s ?) I would think more 1950-ish.
Rich Edit: Did a bit more reading last night. You puukko model is the Pornestrari. It has the nickel silver ferrule; the Rajapuukko does not. Last edited by Rich; 18th March 2021 at 02:10 PM. |
