Philo sword ?

I need some suggestions with this one.

Blade shape - Philippines ?
Scabbard of wood and the chape reminds me of T'boli.

O/A length 23"
Blade 17"

Thickest part of the blade is 1/8th "

Blade is flat on both sides.
Hilt is wood and brass.

All suggestions welcome.

Hello Roy,

nice sword! I think you are on the correct way, scabbard look indeed T'boli, the cast ferrule would confirm this. Handle has Mandaya style. But I am sure that one of our experts will know exactly. Bagobo??

This is a Bagobo piece and not T'boli, based on the blade shape, scabbard design, hilt design, and style of geometric motif used on the hilt.

Etch the blade - you may find lamination.

Looks to me to be circa 1925 - 1930s.

Royston, Great looking sword. I especially like the hilt and cast ferrule and guard. I would also be very interested in knowing whether the blade is laminated or not. My congratulations to you on a very nice score.

Jose, is it normal for this style of sword to have a blade thickness of only 1/8th inch? Seems rather thin compared to most other Philippine edged weapons that I have seen until now.

Good job you mentioned the 1/8th Robert. That should read 1/4" thick !

Jose, I see what you mean about the Bagobo traits. Do you have a name for it ?
