Hi Gene,

very well worked dress, wood is maybe gembal jati (teak burl wood), the pendok is a better one (would like to see some close ups) and it seems that the dress is worked for the blade. Good keris!

Good pendok, not a first class one but good. For someone this blade seems have had a special worth.

Hi Detlef,

What would the metal of the 'cup' be? It's gold in colour and seemingly untarnished, is it like pinchbeck?

Yes yes yes. Hard to make wood patterns, but it is another matter to match them with steel.

That was my thought on this piece I made:

The pamor was done to match in some form the wood that was the sheath.

That burl wood is quite special...I have not seen teak burl before.

It seems to me that the common use of jati gembol (teak burl) for making hilts and warangkas is relatively recent in Central Java, may be because of the disappearance of the preferred wood species like trembalo, tayuman, kemuning, timoho pelet, cendana wangi, etc... Any other opinion?
