			Hi Gene,

very well worked dress, wood is maybe gembal jati (teak burl wood), the pendok is a better one (would like to see some close ups) and it seems that the dress is worked for the blade. Good keris! Regards, Detlef |

Good pendok, not a first class one but good. For someone this blade seems have had a special worth.

			Hi Detlef,

What would the metal of the 'cup' be? It's gold in colour and seemingly untarnished, is it like pinchbeck? Best Gene |

A very very fine example. The dress fits this keris perfect. It was made for this one. Congrats with this great addition to your collection.

THIS BURL WOOD IS MY FAVORITE ESPECIALLY ON A KERIS AS IT MIRRORS THE MAN MADE PARMOR OR MORE LIKELY IT IS THE MAN MADE PARMOR THAT IMITATES NATURE. VERY NICE KERIS

IT TAKES MAN QUITE A WHILE TO MAKE A NICE PAMOR KERIS BLADE BUT NATURE TOOK A LOT LONGER AND PUT EVEN MORE PATTERN IN GROWING THIS WOOD. |

Yes yes yes. Hard to make wood patterns, but it is another matter to match them with steel. That was my thought on this piece I made: http://www.doorcountyforgeworks.com/...eaf_Bowie.html The pamor was done to match in some form the wood that was the sheath. That burl wood is quite special...I have not seen teak burl before. Ric |

It seems to me that the common use of jati gembol (teak burl) for making hilts and warangkas is relatively recent in Central Java, may be because of the disappearance of the preferred wood species like trembalo, tayuman, kemuning, timoho pelet, cendana wangi, etc... Any other opinion?
