Default Philippine 1st Republic Dagger Restored

Got this dagger from "imas560" for restoration. It is a unique piece from the the turn of the century during the Philippine-American War/1st Philippine Republic. The tang goes all the way through the hilt, but unlike most of these pieces, this has carving in the wood hilt and scabbard. I posted this also for our research records.

Lots of active rust and a missing silver top. Here are pictures of the original condition in which I received it:

Nice Battara! I really like the unique hilt carving. Was there a pommel cap??...almost seems to be missing one.

Here it is restored. I took off the active rust and repolished the blade to what it was or close to it.

I also made the end cap and had to make tiny brass nails replacing the missing ones that keep the silver mounts in place (and match those that remained). At the same time I polished the silver mounts. You can see the classic triangle with sun face and 3 stars.

Notice the wood carvings. I am wondering if they indicate this piece is Visayan or nearby......

Your handle needed just a little bit of photoshop work so that we can actually see this carving. Nice!
