Indian Dhal shield?

Greetings all!

I believe that this may be a Indian dhal shield. I really have a limited knowledge on Indian weapons and shields. There are no markings that I can see. The shield appears to have some age but again I am unsure. I really just wanted a shield to accompany my Tulwars, however I would really like to know more about this item.

Any help would be much appreciated. Thank you

It is an indian dhal sheild ,Hard to be sure from the pictures made after 1900 or later.still nice display item .

It is an Indian shield I think after 1900, can get photos of the railway behind the shield fasteners

Hi Chris,

The shield looks to have washers on the back of the four bosses, where the handles attach.
Can you show a close-up?
Is there are 'padding' in the cushion and if so what is it made from?

The washers were a mystery to me, they are certainly there and appear to not have aged like the rest of the shield, maybe a later add-on? In saying that these could be made out of stainless steel and the shield could have been made in the 1960s or 70's and still have the aged appearance. The cushion appears to consist of a type of aged yellow foam, again this probably indicates that the shield does not have much age.

I think it is quite evident that this shield does not have a lot of age and is probably a 'tourist' made shield. Still a nice display item that will do the job until I can afford an original. Thank you again for your input guys.

A very nice item, certainly less "touristy" than the one I have.

Perhaps it wasn't meant for export but for ceremonial use/part of a shaster stall?
