Hey Lew, it DOES look promising.....but MAN! those photos sure do suck. Looks to be a genuinely old piece. I hope you find it is wootz as well.

Well the katar finally showed up today after being lost for a bit during the
X-mas rush. I cleaned off one side of the blade with 600 grit sand paper and etched and blued it. It was hard but I able to coax the wootz pattern out a little. It is made of Indian wootz with a fine pattern. It will be hard to photograph it but I will try when I have good light if not I will bring to Maryland in march for all to see.
