Dear members ,
I would like to get your opinions for this keris . Different possibilities and very confusing . The blade fit perfectly into the sheath so looks like both originals . Some say that could be Salayer on South Celebes ( hilt and blade shape without pamor ) , some Malaysian or Sumatran for the sheath half moon and the the inlaid blade other West coast of Borneo for the hilt ... Thank you Henri |

Hi Henri, interesting ensemble you've got there. The hilt is uniquely Salayar, "Pangulu Le'ngo" (le'nga) form, as it's called by the locals. The interesting keris blade, I cannot confirm. The hilt cup (pendokok, kili-kili) is Sumatran. The sari bulan sheath, may be Sumatran or Peninsular Malay to me. Overall a nice find, congrats!

Lovely keris Henri.
The hilt is indeed very salayer. But how would a salayer blade look like. is there a specific salayer blade style ? ![]() Best regards, Willem |

Nice grab for sure - congrats, Henri!
IMHO, the blade also seems to have a Straits feel to it. My best guess would be that this is a Sumatran/Straits keris that found its way into the hands of a Salayer/Selayer owner who decided to rehilt it according to local fashion. The pesi is weird though - has anyone disassembled a Selayer badik or two? Regards, Kai |

Hello Henri,
very good grab you have done with this keris! For the hilt you can look as well to this thread: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ighlight=badik Agree with kai that the pesi is a little bit weird. BTW, I never have disassembled my Salayer badik and can't tell if the pesi is similar. Again, a very interesting keris and I am a little bit green with envy! ![]() ![]() Regards, Detlef |
