Japanese Kabuto,Thoughts please......

This odd looking Kabuto is of leather construction which in itself is not odd.......the shape is. Any idea's?.

I am pretty sure that this is a dummied-up - ahh erh, I mean - a reworked WWII vintage Japanese civilian defense helmet. Take a look at Nakada's only volu on Japanese militaria page 229, number 1014 for exactly the same pot but with out the "shikoro." Hinky, I think!
