First 3 pictures are of the simple Kard. Good 8'' wootz blade, silver? handle. But I am curious: Perhaps there is more to it. How can one tell of it's origin, perhaps by the Silver work of the hilt or scabbard? Turkish, Indian...?

The last 2 pictures are of the different silver? cover. Please note the dresses and the small child with the sword? in his hand. What could be the origin of this? Any thoughts/comments? You never know what one can learn on the Forum. |

I would say greece, not typical thou. The blade is turkish damascus. I would guess that it was rehilted in greece. Can you post a photo of the kard in the scabbard? It looks that that scabbard is not original to it.

The kard is Mughal, the symmetrical flowers represented in plan view are indicative. This type is often fitted with a scabbard which takes in most of the grip, Central Asian style; it is generally made entirely of silver and embossed and chased en suite with the grip. It may date to the mid 1800s, perhaps later.

The chape is from a N.W. Persian dagger, probably early 20th century. The figures are characteristic of such work. Ham |
