PHILIPPINES KNIFE
TODAY HAS RECEIVED THIS KNIFE FROM EBAY, IN THE SCABARD THERE ARE ONE NAME ( PHILIPPINES) AND A DATE (1945). IS POSSIBLE THE KNIFE WAS MORE OLDER THAN 1945?, FROM WICH PART OF PHILIPPINES?

Hi Carlos. I guess it is possible it is older, but i'd say unlikely. These blades were made as souvenirs for returning GIs from the war. Often the blades were made of scape metal for the war as this one appears to be. The blade and sheath do have a nice appearance though and frankly, from a historical point of view at least, i believe these weapons should be collected and maintained.

That's a very nice knife, and you got it at a good price. The carving and workmanship looks better than many souvenir pieces. Enjoy it!

I'll take a guess as to Luzon being the origin ; I see a through tang if I'm not mistaken .

I agree with Rick all the way. Nechesh is right, many of these were made during the war, although this may have been used and then sent back with the GI with carving on the scabbard.

I vote Bataangas, particularly due to the wood scabbard. Though my uncle told me, who was from deep Tagalog country, told me that the way to tell really old Tagalog bolo is that they have the wood scabbards.
