I.D. for a Kurdish Jambiya

Hi everybody
presented as a nice 19th C. kandjar jambiya dagger
with a fine wootz blade that was patterned as a flaming blade
eBay n° : 290750065409 (auction ended)

I didn't pushed my bids, the flaming blade created me, a disturbance
the wootz seems old, Indo-Persan,
I have a difficulty to imagine Kurdish men with a Jambiya equipped with a blade from India,
it was that my feeling

... and ...

what's your expertise ? I was wrong ? this type of dagger is common ?
just to know, for an other time ...

Dom,

The watered steel surfaces is ok for the type.

The terrible edges though...they look very out of balance....only the spirits know how or why this has the unbalanced look it does....
or maybe someone here

I agree with Gav, the waves on the blade are unfortunate. Maybe there was deep rust on the blade and it had to be removed.

Just a thought.

I agree, it just does not look right. I have never seen one with a wavy blade and as Gav says, it appears "out of balance"
It must have been good in it's younger days.
Here are mine for comparison.

Hey Dom,

Its a decent piece, but like you I didnt bid on it because it seems that the blade was modified at some point in its life. I think as Gav and Jose have said, the blade may have been damaged and the waves was the last resort for the restorer.

Non the less, congrats to whoever won it as its an interesting piece :-)
