Sometimes the pendok is decorated on the back side.

"The invincible krises 2" has a few examples, but all with javanese dates. How serious can a western date be taken ? This example reads 25.9.1867 Any comments / ideas / advise ? Thanks and best regards, Willem |

That's a good question Willem. I would think that if the keris were meant for indigenous usage that a western date like this might be suspect, but if it were a presentation piece to a westerner it might make more sense.

Yes, presentation piece for a foreigner would not be a bad idea.

But maybe this "coat of arms" rings a bell with someone on the forum ?

IMHO, it is a kind of stamp, or sign that this keris with the pendhok is not a property of certain person or administration authority.

It has been discussed in this forum before. Please see this: http://www.vikingsword.com/vb/showth...ighlight=stamp GANJAWULUNG |

			Dear Ganjawalung,

Thanks for the link to the thread on this forum. Inreresting information. But in this case, why the european date ? And the decoration is more decorated than the examples in the other thread. This one has the 2 leave shapes on the side, but also some kind of crown and something on top of that. Couldn't that suggest some specific authority ?
