Hello,
I'm desperately looking for images depicting hussars in the 16th and 17th century wearing armour (like the laminated hussar cuirasess in the Graz armoury) and/or with a palash (either in hands or attached to the saddle). All my resources are 18th century or later... I would be grateful for any book hints. Thank you, Matus |

Matus, you may or may not have visited the site below in your quest. I throw it out, just in case.

Thank you Martin, thank you Miqueleter.
In the meantime I found some interesting info also here: http://mek.niif.hu/00900/00941/html/doc/c200788.htm and here: http://mek.oszk.hu/09100/09175/html/43.html One additional question - the use of the sabre vs pallos by the hussars in the 16. and 17. century. The role of the estoc/hegyestor/panzerstecher is more or less clear. But when would a hussar use a sabre and when a pallos? All the best! Matus |

A very interesting polish article on estoc and broadsword usage by polish hussars in the 17th century:
http://www.kismeta.com/diGrasse/Koncerz.htm Looks like for horse combat, the estoc or the broadsword were the primary weapons of choice, the sabre being a personal, secondary weapon when mounted and primary choice when unmounted. Matus |
