Well, here's another nice Luzon knife I just acquired as part of a trade. Horn grip with brass fittings and brass wire wrapping still attached. What is really interesting is that this piece shows both Spanish and Visayan influences in its design. There is also what looks like an F

Nice piece. Unique. Good that the hilt is complete - most of the time the wire in the groves are missing or broken. Congrats.

Hello Jose and thank you for your reply. What do you make of the marking on the blade, do you think it is possibly the owners initial, is it even a letter or is it something else altogether?

Thank you all for your kind words. What do any of you think about the marking on the blade? In some ways it just looks like a capital F done in an odd manor but in another way it looks like a gallows.

I would guess a maker's mark in the Spanish script of the turn of the century. Wish I could say more.

It would appear that each part of this 'F' has been individually struck into the steel .
