good day, it has been a while since i posted here. i would like to share a recent acquisition. it looks to be a little old, banati wood handle and scabbard, silver or silver alloy fittings. can you tell me more about this blade? approximate age? i also posted a pic side by side with my first gunong. and lastly some moro blades family pics. looking forward to your replies. thanks! |

That is a nice, older gunong as far as i can tell. It is small and has a somewhat straighter, less bulbous hilt. The silver work also looks older (and this does look like silver). Others may have better dates for you, but i would put it somewhere around 1900-1920s. I hope you plan to clean this up a bit. The blade needs some TLC and silver fittings were intended to be shiny. And that is well selected wood that would look beautiful with a bit os proper oiling. I don't think to would take much work to bring this piece up to its former glory. |

What a lovely older gunong! I particularly like the ukir on the ferrule and the grain on the hilt. I am not at all an expert, but I agree with what others have said. I had come to this conclusion on my own, but want to see others say it first, but cause I'm not very good at reading gunongs. Have fun, Leif |
