Nifty piece. I agree that the knuckle guard makes using this very awkward. Whichever way you hold it the concave part is forward and the tip would stab the wrong way in an ice-pick hold. Only slashes with the concave part would be possible.
I think the marriage was made for novelty rather than functionality.
