If these metal ornaments had been on the scabbard for a long time, there should have been some outline of the ornaments left on the wood.

I mean, the wood under these ornaments would have been lighter or cleaner because the metal ornament had been there.

Like a picture hanging on the wall for years leaving a mark on the wall.
