Hi,

I would say the mark on the blade is that of

James Burnand & Sons

of Sheffield, England.

According to Geoffrey Tweedale

Tweedale's Directory of Sheffield Cutlery Manufacturers 1740 - 2010

Burnand was in business from 1820 to 1920 and started making Bowie knives in the 1850s.
Their trade mark was that of an Indian above the motto Self-Defence.

Best regards, Helge
