Thanks Fernando, I should have mentioned that this round was designed for a 32-pounder gun. I did some research and during the American Revolution 1775-1781, an earthenwork, star-shaped fort "Fort Washington" existed on Morris Heights, New York City, origin of this recovery. The fort had four 32-pounder cannon facing the water, hoping to sink or disable any British ships attempting to pass the fort. On the opposite side of the river was Fort Lee, completing the defensive barrier to British shipping. Unfortunately Fort Washington was captured by the British (and Hessians) during a land battle.
