To continue the theme of Moro weapons made in the 20th C, the accompanying picture illustrates four
pira that have been made, more or less, in the traditional style with a prolonged extension coming from the end of the hilt. I believe that all of these date from the 20th C, probably post-WW II, and each has a horn hilt with a longer ferrule than on older forms. The blades vary in shape and length, and I only have a scabbard for the top one. In keeping with tradition, the scabbard is a plain wooden sheath.

pira need to be distinguished from a different style that appears to have arisen in the 20th C that has a hilt with a down-turned end.
Truly antique
pira from before 1900 are very hard to find, although there are pictures of several examples on this site.
