Hi Alan, thanks for the explanation-yeah, it’s nigh on impossible from a photo to explain the subtle differences, I’ve had similar problems trying to explain the same sort of thing to a friend I’m tutoring in Japanese swordmaking.
I try to study as much as I can, but I think I will have to be satisfied with making “keris like objects” for now! Having said that, I feel that the journey itself is as worthwhile as the finished product, for self improvement/development. My patience level has certainly improved, along with technical ability. If making keris makes me a better person as well as a better smith then it can only be a good thing!!
