Miniatures are interesting. In some cultures, an apprentice knifemaker was required to make miniatures of the knives he would make later as an acknowledged bladesmith. Everything from blade to hilt to scabbard had to be authentic, but scaled down. If a master bladesmith thought they were good miniature versions of the real thing, he passed his apprenticeship.
