IMHO you're completely right. I've the same idea about it. The sport of collecting is to get so many possible nice items you really like against the lowest price possible.
When reporting to the Mrs. it is better for your health you can tell her that it was a bargain. How would you manage when you have to tell her that you bought a beautiful sword but the rent for this month is a slight problem. Better not I guess but one way or the other she will find out
