I would say the mark on the blade is that of
James Burnand & Sons
of Sheffield, England.
According to Geoffrey Tweedale
Tweedale's Directory of Sheffield Cutlery Manufacturers 1740 - 2010
Burnand was in business from 1820 to 1920 and started making Bowie knives in the 1850s.
Their trade mark was that of an Indian above the motto Self-Defence.
