Just to go a bit further, it is the tradition of Balinese blades to be polished to a smooth finish. Also a blade will only be black if treated with Warangan (arsenic and lime) and this must be done from time to time to keep up the color. This blade is obviously overdue. Since it is polished in the mode of Balinese blades it may very well have a pamor pattern that you just can't see until it is re-stained...or it may have no pamor.
