Thanks for the replies. I agree, my gut feeling is that it's recent as well, but you guys' opinion have more expertise behind them. Thus far the edge seems to be decent. Will be testing it out on mangoes and coconuts soon. The blade has a decent feeling but not quite as nice a feel as nice well-made legit antiques.
