I just wanted to thank you for talking the time to post this indeed interesting item, and giving us a chance to look at it from different perspectives.
Going 'by the numbers' your assessment is well placed, and seems in many respects entirely plausible, and I hope my observations are taken simply as my own perspective based on research I have done over time on the swords in the Sudan.
It is always entirely possible for new information to turn up, and evidence supporting contrary views, which is why posting these kinds of items is so important, just in case. Investigation into most weapons forms always remains fluid, and just wanted to thank you for the opportunity you shared here.
