Hello Alan,

My best guess would be Jormungandr, the Midgard serpent.

But the knife doesn't look Finnish to me.

The Finnish puukko is quite simple, even the high end/dress pieces....

Hello,

A friend is curious about the markings on yataghan blades.

In the photos, is a yataghan blade with presumably the marking of the 42nd Orta (regiment) of Janissaries.

1. Does anybody have...

From my experience, good etching can, in most cases, dramatically improve the contrast and enhance the pattern.
