Gentlemen.
I do appreciate that both of you have managed to keep the contentious discuss on Wayang civil and orderly. As i am sure both of you realize, it seems we have reached the point where you...

Agree with Jean. More nice old and unusual dress examples. Very nice.
Just curious, is there some reason you keep all your hilts facing in the opposite direction from what is generally considered...

Well, i'd say you made a might fine "first foray" into the world of keris. This looks like a fine original example of a 19th century Bugis keris. I would also say Sulawesi.

i can see all of Alan's points here. This singo certainly does not appear to be Javanese and the greneng is also very strange for that origin. But much of the blade could indeed be Javanese. An...

Welcome to the forums.
I don't know of that many good writer sources on barongs aside from Cato's Moro Sword and there is only very basic info there on these weapons.
I would recommend to post some...

The blade looks contemporary and is not a Filipino blade as far as i can tell. I agree with those who believe this is a new blade married to an older hilt.

I agree with Jean that this doesn't look quite like bone. Marine ivory is a possibility. The surface is rough and scuffy so it is difficult to clearly see the structure.
I am not aware that all...

Well, first off, while i believe this hilt is a contemporary, non-traditional form, i personally find it very appealing. :)
I don't think it is ivory (certainly not elephant or whale) and it doesn't...

Well, it is most certainly a Moro hilt on an Indonesian blade. I can't say that this stumps me. The small size of the hilt is not that unusual. Especially some older Moro kris tended to be smaller...

Well, if it were mine i would surely try to give it an etch with vinegar to see if it has a twisted core. It won't harm the blade.

Yes, i should have added this. If that is the case, then "holy grail". If not, still a pretty nice and rare find. ;) :)

Seriously Chief? You seem to have stumbled upon the holy grail for Moro kris collectors. This is what Cato refers to as an "Archaic" kris. I suppose it is debatable how far back this form goes, but...

Interesting kris. I'd say that the gangya is indeed separate (though i can't be sure). The blade could be a bit older than the dress. The style of hilt does look more post WWII, but it is nicely...

Yes Jean, Amuk generally seems to use the old Dutch spellings that have fallen out of usage in Indonesia since the early 1970s. I do find it a bit confusing at times myself.
I assume, Amuk, that...

Well, it makes a lot of sense to me Alan. The sheaths take on a general Javanese shape, but keep key elements of Bali wrongko form. Seems like a logical solution.

hmmmm....any possibility we are dealing with Balinese people living in Jawa?
Sirek's keris is very interesting. I also love the blade and it sure looks like it could be a Bali/Lombok.

If it is the lip at the top of the wrongko and the way it rises at the back i can see sometime Javanese is that form, but i don't think it is never seen on Bali sheaths. I made this comparison to...

These markings on either side of the wrongko where the gander meets it may be unusually large and elaborate, but they seem quite in order for a Balinese keris to me. On the other hand, i have rarely...
