Willem, why do you think this blade is an old one? Judging on pictures is hard, but you're expertise on this field is much better than mine. The copper inlay and probably the cleaning of the blade... |

Yes, a copy nothing special. Send it immediately to me. You're in the wrong section. Ethnographic weapons was a better choice. It is a Philipine dagger. I think from Luzon. Not my field but the more... |

Although i haven't the slightest idea, i don't think it is tourist junk. If it is tourist junk then it is the better tourist stuff. India, Tibet possibly. Maybe even Thai. Anyway, I like it. |

Alan, I had also some doubts about it although it is stylistically Surakarta. Would you be so kind to enlighten us why you think it is East Jawa and where it differs with Surakarta for workmanship... |

If i look at the dress I would say Surakarta Solo. I love the wood. About the pamor you can say anything. You should stain the blade with warangan. Then you can see the pamor and don't be surprised... |

The ukiran or hilt is from Madura. I think the complete keris is from Madura. The wrongko or ship of the scabbard is missing. The gandar or the remaining piece of the scabbard has been carved by some... |

No idea what it is and where from. But everything says to me a clumsy crudely carved tourist item. A piece I never would tell anybody that i bought it. |

Apparently not. A khyber knife has a T shaped spine to the blade. |

I think the seller is right. It is a Pesh Kabz. Do you have a scabbard? Maybe one of the forumites is able to translate what is written on the blade. |

Detlef. I like these knives a lot. I bought my first one 30 years ago in Scotland. Looks similar to yours. Personally I would say it isn't a copy. Still used when wearing a kilt. These knives are... |

Detlef is right. The blade has the same quality as the cheap javanese tourist keris often found here in Holland. Same as the dress. Very good example to learn how it shouldn't be. Maybe one comfort,... |

Alan, I'm very glad with your explanation. You put it just in the way what i have in my mind. I completeley agree with you. Your skills and education in keris as your native tongue can nail this... |

Sorry for the late answer. I explained in these links that in the Sumatra area the javanese keris was highly sought after. Sailors brought javanese blades back from their trading journeys and... |

Not my field but here are my two cents. The hole looks shiny but the attachment of the chain to the pommel looks rather good and original to me. The attachment of the chain to the quillon is done... |
