Not United Cutlery, Utica Cutlery. I drive past the factory at least once a week, the Mohawk Valley of Central NY state was ground zero for production of pointy stuff in WW2.

The other major...

I agree it's 12 4 numerals, but I don't think it's a date... 124 years past 0 on the Islamic Calendar is 741 CE, and I've just spent twenty minutes trying to puzzle out what else it could be. I'd...

I'm glad you like it, and sorry- I did what I could for pictures. Figured someone on here would probably get it, and glad to see I was right. I personally picked it out of an estate auction I was...

I'd be very curious to see, more clearly, what look like inscriptions on the blade. I get a Thai vibe from it, but I've got a friend who's deeply into collecting Thai weapons, so I might just be...

A cow's worth about a thousand dollars, and it's a pretty stable market value compared to inflation too. Pigs and chickens, however, are dirt cheap, and horses lost their market to the automobile.

VP is an Austrian cutlery-maker marking on bayonets, but the name of the company escapes me. I think it might be Ferlach, but I'm not certain that's right.

It's a Najava, as freebooter said. Distantly related to knives like the Laguiole. I think the seller just threw "SWORD" into the title as a searchterm hook to try to get more exposure. Worked,...

As a collector more of fairly modern projectile weapons versus blades, I must enthusiastically concur on the cutout appearing to be a cannon firing. A very nice blade and an ingenious decoration.

If I might, whatthehell, that barrel band and bipod sure looks like it's adapted from a Japanese Type 99. Definite, impressive migration of parts and recycling or improvisation if that's the case.

Just to be fussy, the photos posted of Turk bayonets are of the 1935 reworked, ten-inch blades. The original Turkish 1903 blades were "quillback" like the German S98, and featured a stiffening rib...

Actually, the ball-tipped crossguard on the second (white handled) blade more closely resembles the Turkish 1903 quillback bayonet, but I agree the longer one appears a native blade in the style of a...

I'm just used to ornate toughras and the style seemed not implausible. I tend to stick with the mass-produced martial blades for the simple reason that I can't for the life of me tell trash from...

Tourist or treasure?

This is coming up for auction in a few days locally, and while my instincts say "Good, spend lots of money!", I figured I should enquire of you guys first. Looks to me to probably be Ottoman and...

Well, two things of note. One, as was mentioned, a .38 caliber blackpowder or primitive smokeless cartridge like .38 Long Colt is far and away from a certain killer. It barely delivers 270J of energy...

Nope, sorry, no discernible arsenal markings anywhere on the blade or tang.

Somebody else who looked at this on another forum said it maybe read Mitsusabu or Mitsuzo as the maker.

Katana blade

I'm fairly sure this is a WW2 vintage Japanese officer swordblade, rather than a rarer or earlier example, but I'm still curious as to maker and provenance.

I picked it up at an auction for a...

Siamese? Sword pair

Dunno, the motif seems Thai, but I'm guessing based on limited experience. Owner said they thought they were Phillipine.

I can't offer help with the markings, but I cannot resist offering a complement. That is an absolutely gorgeous blade, and definitely something to be quite proud of.

A Barong and a whazit?

Friend got these at an estate sale, and wasn't even sure they weren't tourista. I thought they were neat, and spotted the faint inking on the scabbard of the second that appeared to read 2-03-1945. I...
