The only reason I thought it might be Ottoman or Turkish was the naval insignia, I didnt think any other countries had the exact same anchor with the serpent around it, but obviously the french sword...

Just took possesion of this sword with the hunch it might be ottoman, due to the naval insignia however its made by coulaux e klingenthal. This is etched into the spine of the blade by the handle,...

they have been touted as being ottoman military drums from the mehter band. how true i dont know, the one's i have seen used by the military band are much larger and different, modern of course....

well since i aquired that sword i have bought another 4 similari, one short but 3 same, and sharp as this one. just adding to my collection. most have the same writing. variations are evident though.

all I can say is wow. Been to the palace many times, and seen the dispayed collections, but never knew about these. Definately next summer when I am there I will ask if they can let me see these....
