I have been researching early 16th century burgonets, or skull caps, depending on how you look at it. I've found a few that have nasals or appear to have had them at one point. I'm however wondering...

How to fit a Nagel to a hilt

Does anybody know how a nagel was fitted to the hilts of lange- and kriegsmesser?

I'm thinking of something like this:
Seems to me there are three options

1) Drive the nagel through the cross...

That's an interesting find but I don't think that the Lange Messer of the 13th century were like the single edged swords with a cross bar and 'nagel' that one normally thinks of. The 13th century...
