The answer to your question is that these two shield come from very different places. The one on the left with the more crescent shape is from the Madang area of the North Coast while the rough cut...

parrying shields from Eastern Australia

usually parrying shields with a flattened front and triangular reverse are from Western Victoria not NSW.

not beanwood

I believe that beanwood is a term often used regarding the soft wood shields of Central Australia, not hardwood shields from Western Australia.
