Stud is a stand

Just had a strike of insight on the stud which nobody wants to pass opinion on (Not even Rawson, who does mention it).
It might be there just to let the sword stand upright on the back of its...

Sword sights

Do we know if these were actually fighting weapons or ceremonial? Balance is great and weight surprisingly light but very robust, so I would go for the fighting option. I had an idea on the stud on...

I tend to agree up to a point and finding a good quality blade on a Indian weapon seems to be harder than a good hilt but I guess blades are the working part and thats where more damage and...

Hi Bill
I see what you mean, very nice and very similar in style but detail is certainly different. I would guess the handle on mine is a Victorian replacement and would have been closer to yours....

Blades

I hadnt botherd with these, as the blades arent always a good guide to the hilt, what with re-mounting etc
But as you ask, in the same order as the hilts.

Nice Farangi

Auction purchase number 2.
Exceptionally nice sword with great balance, even being a heavy weight and exceptionally solid. Certainly seems to be a European blade and there appears to be marks in the...

Rather nice Katar

A new auction purchase and rather crisp example I think, though one for even more slender hands than usual. Any ideas on age?
Cheers

Tulwar silver decoration style

Hello all
Been a while since I had anything new and then it all turns up. Traded for these three tulwars, all with silver decoration and would like to know any opinions on age and region by their...

A couple of interesting tulwars

Hi guys, seems a while since ive posted but life catches up with us sometimes.
Just gained these, nothing greatly unusual but thought I'd put them on anyway.
The first, typical tulwar form, very...

Well, I have to confess my surprise!
I cleaned the one side of the blade and nothing and then wonderd if I could be botherd to do the other side, especially as pattina was nice and there didnt...

Well the blade has been cleaned on one side, sympathetically and we have no markings. Otherside may yet reveal something but I dont think they are there.
Hoping Brian will come out of hiding for an...

There seems to be some insistance that there must be marks on this blade, so I have decided to attempt to clean it. Though it has a very deep and dark pattina, i'll just have to look and see what I...

Seems an awful lot of speculation here. When was Hungary trading with Syria? This sort of thing can happen on an individual basis but on the scale that is being suggested would seem to indicate some...

Well shamshir is what the auction house were selling it as but from their identification of various other pieces indicated, they knew absolutely nothing.

I have its sister

Hi Tim
Seems that mass production was used, by whatever means as it seems I have your shields twin. Well almost, mines a bit distorted and it appears at one time that it may have been cloth coverd,...

Very little doubt. Could be of European manufacture but certainly for the Islamic/Turkish market. The fluted barrel mouth is a bit of a give away I think.

Thanks all

High praise from all, I’m a little overcome :) Especially when compared to Wagner and claimed to be better! Eek I wouldn’t go that far but I can see what you mean. The illustrations in “Cut & Thrust”...

Just painted these, as an experiment, inspired by Wagners "Cout and thrust Weapons"
