Hello, It appears to me that the Flask has been repaired in an enthusiastic manner rather than in a sympathetic way. The steel banding does not match or blend in. The hanging screws and backing...

Maximilian helmet.

I like the look of this helmet. Somebody has put a lot of effort in making it. But it gets let down by poorly applied ageing. The exterior marks are as others have said -- Not correct. I would also...

Broken spring

Hello Philip, I have tried several times over the years to weld broken springs with very limited success. I think trying to weld new to old would have even less chance of working. Perhaps it is...

Powder flask ?

Not certain that you have a powder flask and not being certain can mean I am wrong. OK, it looks to be a heavy casting, most flasks are fairly light weight as you have to carry them. The long thread...

It would be interesting to see the inside of the lock. From the pictures the trigger screw can be seen but not any sign of a sear spring screw. Not an English lock type i have ever seen. Can you also...

Sea Service Pistol ?

It might have been to sea and a British person might have fired it but I don't think this is a British Sea Service Pistol. The angle of the grip/butt looks too straight. I don't think I have seen a...

Hello, Looks like you have a bit of work to do but worth it I think. You wrote that the hammer screw held the hammer and tumbler , true but missing from that lock is the bridle that fits the other...

Welding

Sorry to not agree with everybody but--- Unlikely to be a scarf joint. A scarf joint is when both ends are cut at an long angle and one side then slides over the other. This method is good for...

Muzzel Loading multi Tool

Hello, What you appear to have is a relic from the Civil War. The tool is one made for the English Enfield 1853 percussion rifle. Many thousands of the rifles were shipped to the states , therefore a...

Chinese Jian Clean up

If the Jian was old is it sensible to clean it up too much? Over cleaning removes the history. The photographs are a bit unclear, I can see no build up of old dirt under the brass work on the wood....

Yes it certainly is a straight line. I presumed that they rolled the steel and the mark was left from that. The only straight line on the whole flask, the rest off the flask is all...
