Well then, what do you think of my blade then? Over 41cm long, same greneng and tikel alis treatment. It has been dressed in what i have presumed was Sumatran dress for a very long time in a sheath...

I'm not sure why a Sumatran owner would carve dress for this keris that much more closely resembles Javanese dress, so my first inclination would be to think this blade was dressed for a Javanese...

I would not be the least bit surprised Jean. This is obviously recent work (at least the carving), so one might wonder how all that kinatah could get worn off in a relatively short period of time. It...

Well, i'd say that given both the photographs and the 19th century prints it seems fairly confirmed that this is an accepted and traditional method of carry. I would think that it would be far easier...

If you look closely you can see that this blade did indeed once carry kinatah that has since fallen away. But i tend to agree with Jean that this seems to be a contemporary blade, although it would...

Well, it's kind of a wonky fit, but i'm not convinced that necessarily means that it wasn't actually made for this blade since it is obviously work done by a non-professional carver.

Hey Jean, since this "sampir" seems to originate in East Jawa, why not call it a wrongko? ;) :)

I do agree with xasterix's take on FMA though and working with the wooden swords i posted above would not be likely to give the practitioner a very good feel for the weight and balance of actual kris...

As others have suggested, it would be a shame mess up this lovely inlay by practicing with this piece. It would, however, make a nice wall hanger.
I often see unadorned wooden swords for sale that i...

Jean, i believe you are confused because Gustav actually posted TWO keris as a comparative. The first one IS Bill's keris. The second one is a tighter shot on the one he attributes to Jayasukadgo. ;)
