Yes that was my feeling too , the edges are not sharp , the spike however has been broken and might have been longer originally. I have posted another axe which I believe is Indian , see below ....

African drinking bowl

I am fairly sure this is African , but unsure of the region . The bowl itself is 5 inch diameter and 3 inches deep internally , whilst the handle is 7 inches long. Shows old repairs using handmade...

Almost certainly Indian ... I have one with the same hilt but straight blade . It had the swollen 'mail piercing' tip .

I tend to agree with all the above comments , 'international modern' is a very apt description of the blade type by Ariel , I have encountered blades of this type imported from India for amateur...

My opinion , for what it's worth , is that this is a fairly modern made 'flamboyant' blade which has been married to an old French style bread knife handle . The 'guard' may well be from a brass...

I do agree David ... I think this is a composite , the handle coming from a non knife related item , the blade reshaped from some larger blade , perhaps a carving knife and the scabbard a chance...
