marks on a 19th C Coachman's / horseman's knife

A friend of mine has this rather nice Sheffield made coachman's / horseman's knife and noticed this set of geometric marks on one of the tools ... does anyone know what they are ? Thank you.

iThe leatherwork appears to be West African in style . It measures , when closed, 7.5 x 9.5 inches. Very faintly written in ink is a name which is largely illegible ... 'Lt A (?) H . E???? ?? th ( ?...

Help with the ID of this dagger please .

Any thoughts on this rather good quality dagger ? Overall length 25 cm , blade length 14 cm . The blade is very thick and of diamond cross section with a flattened oval cross sectioned ricassso .

I dont think this is the frame of a recently made re enactment scabbard ... it is too complex in its structure ... modern made scabbards of this type are much more simplistic . I think this is old...

I would have thought that if blood of any type...

I would have thought that if blood of any type was used on wood after oil had been applied , the blood would not penetrate or colour the wood at all .
