I think it is a police sword. The stamp was used by Wilkinson on trooper's and OR's weapons from at least the mid-1800s, and I think the number of lobes on the grip is simply due to manufacturers'...

The Hessian is 39mm wide at the ricasso and 10mm across the spine, so a good bit broader but about the same thickness.

Short sword for ID

I found what I originally thought was an old hunting sword and was drawn to it because of the attractive hilt and evidence of some etching on the blade.

The hilt is brass and the grip is wound...

Norman, I believe the stamp on the scabbard throat refers to the 5th Battalion Lancashire Fusiliers, while the stamp on the guard is for the 4th Batt. Royal Warwickshire Regiment.
