Shine or not to shine/ Moro kris silver pommel

The silver pommel on this kris has turned dark grey/black. Most of the ones posted in the forum and the ones I've seen in books are shiny. Should I apply metal polish to bring back the shine?

Hi Bill, no, I don't think there were any recent alterations. The cloth and the rope (around the handle) look like they have been there for many many years.

inscription on blade

Hi David,

No, I don't know what the inscription says. I was hoping someone out there might be able to read it.

Hi Kai,

Thanks for the inputs. The grip is some kind of rope with copper wire in between. Asang-asang looks like aluminum. Yes, gangya is separate.

The pink plastic is not part of the...

maranaw kris with Tiboli scabard?

Can anyone help me on this? Is the pommel elephant molar? Why would it have tiboli cloth wrapped around the scabard? (unless of course someone did it just to make it look interesting).

There is also an on-going exhibit at the Yuchenco Museum on "SULU". 5 Moro armors, several lantakas and maybe 15 moro swords (all with ivory pommels). The brass armor with arabic inscriptions,...

Yes, that's exactly how many of the blades in the exhibit looked like -- polished blades like stainless steel. I guess they must been polished to make them look nice for the exposition and then kept...
