Iron would make sense, I just tested it and a magnet sticks to it. Brass and or copper would make sense, it's a rather simple piece. The guard and ferrule seem to be a single piece.

I'll work on...

Yeah, just a bit. With the large supply of them, the great variety, and the relatively low price (particularly in comparison to moro and Indonesian items, which I also love), I'm loving the hell out...

3 Talibons (or Garabs?)

Hello All,

My first three items from the Vasayans. All from Epray.
I'm not very clear on how a talibon is distinguished from a garab. Perhaps someone could clarify that for me.
None are very...

I had my eye on that one as well. I'm glad it went to a forum member.

Have fun,
Leif

Question V.N... on Filipino Scabbards

Mubahay!

I'm a new collector, and I have two pieces with V.N.<something> carved on them.
The first is a Samal Barung with V.N.B.E.L carved on the back of the scabbard. After receiving it, I did...

Not that I think is likely related, but the style of construction reminds me of a type of medieval Irish longsword, as discussed in the link below. The little spike in the open ring pommel looks like...

Wow. Just wow.

The real question is whether that was done ethnographically or or not?

I don't suppose you have any measurements on this?

Have fun,

Oh, I had wondered about the peksi, but forgot to mention it.

Old Bugis "restored" in Java in would make a lot of sense. I see a lot of modern Javanese stuff from the same seller.

Thank you...

Hello All,

I just received my first barung (an epray purchase), and am super excited! :D
The seller says this is from the Moro insurgency period, but it came from epray, so who knows?...
